Abuse of the elderly. I called today & spoke to an off hand receptionist. My request was to put in place a co-ordinated care plan for my Father. My Father had an MRI of his brain recently & has an appointment at a clinic. As you can imagine it's been an anxious time for us all!!! Both my parents are 85 years old. I am the daughter & deal with their medical. That is I make appointments & always am present in Dr consultations. My request was that we needed to make sure that his MRI results will be in front of the consultant for my Father's next appointment. I did not request the result. I was safe guarding so as we understand what is going on & not sit & be told sorry I have not been given results. The receptionist response was I'm not going to tell you anything. I then asked her do I need to contact my Mother for her to give the phone to my Father for his permission to which she replied yes. My Mother phoned the practice to be rudely dealt with & couldn't believe how as an elderly persons both her & my Father were being treated. The receptionist response was no I am not giving any information & made an assessment of my Fathers condition as being confused. My mother was horrified & informed me that my Father at that time gave a very clear understanding yes. The receptionist proceeded to tell my mother put it writing. If I was not their carer I would categorically say my parent's would be taken advantage of. How dare a receptionist make a medical assumption of my Father. What she should have done is said that she is not happy to say the MRI results are in & explained her reasons & then passed it to the relevant person who does have authority. I phoned in with my disgust & then spoke to another receptionist who was equally as rude and condescending. She deflected her attitude on to me by accusing me of shouting when it actual fact it was she who was shouting. I have since phoned in 3 times to speak to the practice manager with no joy. I was left on the line for a long time with another rude response. As you can imagine I am doing my best to care for my parents & do the right thing by them. To encounter this level of abuse is completely & utterly unacceptable. It is obvious there is a serious issue with the receptionist at this practice. The reviews highlight something has to be done. No one let alone the elderly should be treated in this manner. I have today reported the events that took place to the Care Quality Control Commission. I have emphasised that clearly there are problems that need to be addressed given these attitudes could potentially effect someone's health. No one should feel this intimidated given the nature of this service provider. I would urge everyone to report these receptionist as to speak in unison will stop it continuing. I am un sure of what the practice manager has done, is doing, or will do about it. I am of the same opinion as the other reviewer with regards to the receptionist involved I would not even give them 1 star.
